Elements of Design: Texture
Texture is the characteristic visual and tactile quality of the surface of a work of art resulting from the way in which the materials are used.(dictionary.reference.com)
Texture refers to the overall concept of surface an aspect in which all materials posses. Texture plays with the interest of the composition in various aspects. In addition it increases to the attraction of the piece. However, while it may take part in adding variety without altering colour or value it is considered not to be the strongest element to efficiently organize a piece. There are two forms of surface including both tactile involving touch and three dimensional texture and visual involving illusion of two dimensional texture.

Tactile Texture
Tactile texture refers to the literal feel in which the surface posses (3D touch). This type of texture can be felt of observed along with the aid of a source of light probed over the surface. Tactile texture is more so vital in design of three dimensional rather than two dimensional design. Furthermore, to the alternative aspects of texture dimensions it may portray multidimensional aspects. In the incorporation of the use of a variety of various materials tactile texture can be achieved.
Tactile Texture can be described using words including:
